Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway
Take a trip on the ‘Laal Ratty’ (Little Railway) from Dalegarth Station, located a short walk from your accommodation. The narrow gauge, miniature steam railway was once used commercially to transport Iron Ore back in the 1870’s and is now a major tourist attraction. It transports holiday makers on the 40 minute journey through the Eskdale Valley all the way to the coastal village of Ravenglass.

Muncaster Castle
An enjoyable, historical day out. Muncaster Castle has plenty to keep you busy throughout the day: Historic Castle; Himalayan Gardens; Hawk & Owl Centre with daily bird displays; Meadow Vole Maize; café & gift shop; plus regular themed special events.

Eskdale Mill
Take a tour round one of the oldest water powered working corn mills in England which is located in the village of Boot.

Walking
The accommodation offers a perfect base for any walking holiday. The Eskdale Valley has a number of walks for all abilities.
Take a gentle stroll along the footpaths & bridleways in the valley, explore the fells or climb the mountains, including the highest in England, Scafell Pike. There are also lots of other great fells and mountains, such as Great Gable, Scafell, Harter Fell and many more.
We are also close to the Wasdale Valley, which was the birthplace of mountaineering and the iconic Wasdale Head in lingers at the foot of Wasdale which you can walk to directly from your accommodation over the fells past Eel Tarn and Burnmoor Tarn.

Mountain Biking
There are plenty of bridleways in the valley and surrounding areas including ‘The Eskdale Trail’ which takes you the 8 miles to the coast at Ravenglass, you can then ride back after refreshments in one of the cafes or pubs or get the miniature steam train ‘The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway’ back (prior booking necessary).

Call in at the ‘Muncaster Castle’ on route and catch one of the Wild Bird displays, have a glance round the grounds or the Castle itself & watch them feed the dozens of wild Herons.
